Join our team! A leading rubber and plastics manufacturer, with the longevity of being in business since 1912, Lavelle Industries is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Manager to join the team. This key position is a highly visible role that supports the Plant Manager and Supervision team in administering Lavelle safety policies and making improvements to ensure that employees are working safely at our Burlington and Whitewater, WI locations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with an industrial safety background who enjoys collaborating cross-functionally to achieve tactical and strategic goals and seeks to embody a proactive approach to safety initiatives.

The EHS Manager at Lavelle can look forward to work that includes:

  • Working with the plant manager to establish the annual safety improvement plan.
  • Assisting in executing safety plans, including leading several continuous improvement project teams; Participating in gemba walks and spending time on the production floor. Recommend changes to work processes or layouts to improve the safety of employees.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret industrial injury data to identify areas requiring improvement, training or revision of processes.
  • Plan, track, and oversee all required environmental reporting. Work with department managers to train and ensure proficiency in executing tasks required to complete reporting.
  • Keep up with changes in state and local reporting requirements and ensure that Lavelle Wisconsin sites understand requirements and are in compliance.
  • Review industrial accident reports and work with plant supervisors to complete corrective actions; follow up on actions taken to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • Participate/lead Plant Safety Committee meetings and Mill Rescue drills.
  • Stay current on OSHA regulations and interpretations; Create, review, and update employee safety training. Deliver some of the training modules each year.
  • Advise engineering on ergonomic standards for new equipment purchases or work cell redesigns.
  • Establish standards and timing for periodic safety testing – e.g., noise, particulate – and work with outside vendors to complete.

The right fit candidate will bring to the table:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety or Engineering.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth understanding of Wisconsin environmental reporting requirements.
  • Evidence of being a confident, autonomous self-starter able to work with minimal supervision with solid decision-making skills
  • Experience creating and delivering safety training.
  • A demonstrated ability to foster collaborative relationships with production employees and the Operations team; a Strong initiative and desire to improve in a team-oriented environment.
  • Solid problem-solving aptitude with the ability to identify a path and lead a team to resolution.
  • Strong communication, organization, and follow-through skills and proficiency in MS Office applications. Ability to work scheduled hours and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations.
  • Must be able to work in front of a computer.
  • Must be able to lift documents/work materials up to 30 pounds in weight.
