Join our team! A leading rubber and plastics manufacturer, with the longevity of being in business since 1912, Lavelle Industries is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join the team at our Whitewater, WI facility.  Manufacturing Engineers bring creative and practical mechanical solutions to the operations of Lavelle, driving process efficiencies and cost reductions throughout the Whitewater plant’s production operations.

These engineers drive quality and productivity improvements in molding, secondary operations, assembly, and packaging equipment and processes. This position works cross-functionally with quality, manufacturing staff, maintenance, and fellow engineers.

Responsibilities

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for improving existing manufacturing processes while identifying and implementing new technologies that enhance Lavelle’s capabilities. This role requires a self-motivated individual eager to learn all aspects of manufacturing and business processes while contributing to a team-oriented environment. A strong focus on process improvement, automation technologies, and statistical analysis will provide a solid foundation for professional growth.

  • Drive quality and productivity improvements in molding, secondary operations, assembly, and packaging processes.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to source, purchase, and install new equipment.
  • Observe current manufacturing processes and recommend automation solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Develop specifications for new production equipment and optimize existing machinery.
  • Gain hands-on experience in manufacturing processes to support daily operations.
  • Lead or facilitate continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles, engaging production operators, assistant operators, and supervisors.
  • Apply statistical analysis to enhance manufacturing processes, driving improvements in quality, cost, and productivity.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new manufacturing technologies to support corporate objectives.
  • Assist Industrial Engineering with cell layouts and process optimization.
  • Review and enhance preventive maintenance (PM) plans for key equipment, providing training and documentation as needed.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials to support manufacturing processes.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., assembly, packaging, injection molding, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S)
  • Basic knowledge of CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for process design and layout
  • Familiarity with process flow mapping and value stream analysis
  • Understanding of statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis tools
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagram)
  • Exposure to automation and robotics in manufacturing
  • Basic understanding of quality control principles (ISO 9001, GD&T)
  • Knowledge of supply chain and logistics fundamentals
